Factors Influencing Stain Removal
There are various factors that affect the success of stain removal. They are as follows:
- The nature of the stain
- If the stain can be identified
- The amount of time the stain has been there
- What attempts have already been made to remove the stain
- Whether the stain has been allowed to dry or is still moist
- Whether the carpet has been steam cleaned since staining occurred. This would mean that heat would have been applied to the stain, and may have permanently set the stain
Stain treatment / removal is easier when you:
- React quickly before the stain sets or dries
- Have patience and give any agents you are using the time they need to work
- Use appropriate agents correctly
- Do not apply too much of any agent – use a little at a time
Precautions When Using Any Stain Removal Products
- Always make a crock test for colourfastness in an inconspicuous area
- Read labelling on products carefully before use
- Ensure use of recommended health and safety equipment such as rubber gloves or mask
- Handle all chemical agents with care. They may be concentrated chemicals
- Always work in a well-ventilated room
- Avoid excessive inhalation of fumes
- Avoid flames, extreme heat, lighted cigarettes and pipes when working with stain treatment chemicals
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not mix any chemicals. Keep all chemicals in original containers for easy identification
- Close containers tightly to avoid accidental spills, and to also avoid contamination of contents
- Only use products in accordance with the directions
- Follow directions carefully and take heed of all warnings and precautions
